Dale Hagstrom
Experience
Dale works with life insurance companies on financial and tax planning, company formations and demutualizations, reinsurance, life insurance securitizations (i.e., nonrecourse financing or catastrophic mortality or longevity risk transfer), valuations, analysis of investment income, product development and pricing (including dividend scales), variable product compliance with SEC rules, and corporate strategy. In recent years, he worked in litigation support with respect to tax, reinsurance, and market conduct issues. In addition to his work in the United States and Canada, Dale has done work in Australia, Chile, and Argentina. From 1973 to 1979, he was employed by The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.
Dale has worked on the straight conversions of Union Mutual (UNUM), Northwestern National (ReliaStar), Maccabees (Royal Maccabees), Equitable, State Mutual (Allmerica), Guarantee Mutual, Standard, Savings Bank Life of Massachusetts, John Hancock, Metropolitan, Anthem, Principal, Prudential, and Mutual Service Life in the United States, as well as others in other countries.
Dale and his Milliman colleagues have also worked on the conversions to mutual holding company structure by American Mutual (AmerUs), Pacific Mutual, National Life of Vermont, Ohio National, Ameritas, Principal, Minnesota Life, Union Central and Pan American.- Dale’s publications include Insurance Company Growth (Transactions of the Society of Actuaries; Volume XXXIII)

- Dale serves on the Life Committee under the Actuarial Standards Board (ASB) and has participated on four task forces to write new standards with respect to demutualizations (ASOP 33 and ASOP 37) and to update standards with respect to dividends and dividend illustrations (ASOP 15 and ASOP 24).
